Chapter1- Ślokās 31*,*32
na ca śreyo’nupaśyāmi hatvā svajanam āhave || 31 ||
na kāṇkṣe vijayaṃ kṛṣṇa na ca rājyaṃ sukhāni ca |
(1.31*-*1.32)
kṛṣṇa- O Kṛṣṇa! na ca anupaśyāmi- I do not foresee; śreyaḥ- good; hatvā- by killing; svajanam- kinsmen; āhave- in the battle; vijayaṃ na kāṇkṣe- I do not desire victory; na kāṇkṣe- nor desire; rājyaṃ sukhāni ca- empire and happiness;
Purport
“O Kṛṣṇa, I foresee no good in killing my own kinsmen in this battle. I desire neither victory nor empire and its pleasures.”
It is Arjuna’s opinion that he can reap no good by killing his own kinsmen. Considering that Kṛṣṇa might say 'Why not? It will fetch you the empire and resulting comforts. Aren't these big benefits?' As a response, Arjuna continues to say, 'I do not desire these benefits that come as a result of killing my own kinsmen. Hence victory or empire are of no good use to me.'
From these words and the previous statements of Arjuna, it is clear that he has great affection, compassion and attachment towards his kinsmen.
