Chapter1- Ślokās 27*,*28
tān samīkṣya sa kaunteyaḥ sarvān bandhūn avasthitān ||27 ||
kṛpayā parayāviṣṭho viṣīdann idam abravīt |

sa kaunteya- Arjuna who is Kunti’s son; samīkṣya- after seeing; bandhūn- all his relatives; avasthitān- present in the battlefield; tān kṛpayā parayā āviṣṭaḥ- filled with deep compassion; abravīt- said; idam- these words; viṣīdann- in despair.
Purport
This śloka talks about what happened after Arjuna saw his relatives in both the armies, ready for war.
“After seeing all his kinsmen on the battlefield, Arjuna was filled with deep compassion and said these words in despair.”
sa kaunteyaḥ Kunti's son Arjuna is addressed as Kaunteya here. The 'sa' (he) is used to bring out the contrast in Arjuna’s nature from that of Duryodhana's. Duryodhana was experiencing agony due to envy and anxiety concerning his own victory. On the other hand, Arjuna was struck by grief due to his compassion towards his relatives, friends and well-wishers in both the armies.
kṛpayā parayāviṣṭho viṣīdann (Filled with great compassion) 'Feeling pain in his heart upon foreseeing the harm that was going to be caused to the other person', this was the kind of compassion that filled Arjuna.
